The Best Guacamole

We all know guacamole is the ultimate snack and my recipe is guaranteed to be your next favorite! It’s perfect on its own with tortilla chips or veggie sticks and you can enjoy it with tacos, enchiladas, and salads!

My recipe skips out on the tomatoes and those store-bought seasoning kits because it’s best to let the creamy and ripe avocados do all the work. This combines the green goodness with red onion, jalapeño, cilantro, lime juice, and salt for the perfect amount of zest and spice.

Why not make some guacamole now? Pour a margarita (or your favorite beverage), play some tunes, and start cooking! Enjoy!

How can I find ripe avocados for my guacamole?

Ripe avocados are dark green, nearly black. If the outside of the avocado is a bright green, they are not ready to eat.

You can also gently press the top or the bottom of the avocado to check. If it gives to gentle pressure then it should be good to go! One tip: Don’t press or squeeze the avocados too hard or they will likely bruise.

A final test is to take off the stem. If the stem comes off easily and is yellowish, then you should be good to go.

If you can’t find ripe avocados, buy them as green and hard as possible and let them ripen together on your counter away from other fruits or vegetables. They should be ripe in a couple days. Once they’re ripe, you can store them in the fridge for up to a week!

How do I keep my guacamole from turning brown?

The acid from the fresh lime juice in this recipe will help to a certain extent.

If you plan on storing for more than a couple of hours, keep the pit from one of the avocados and throw in the bowl, then cover with plastic wrap and press down so there’s no air between the guacamole and the plastic wrap. This method will keep your guacamole fresh overnight in the fridge.

If you store your guacamole in the fridge like this overnight, the top of the guacamole might turn a light brown, but all of the goodness underneath of the top will still be green so you can mix it together and serve!
